What to expect at your first wedding dress alteration appointment

Updated: Oct 26, 2019

When you found your dress, in most cases it has to get altered to make you look like a true queen on your big day. Coming to the first appointment can be a rollercoaster of emotions as you don’t know what to expect. We're here to answer any of the questions you may have about your first appointment.

When you first come in

As you enter the studio, it is our duty to make you feel as comfortable as possible. You will be welcomed with love, professionalism and a beverage of your choice to create a hassle-free experience for you. This bridal season we’ve seen many brides coming in with entire entourages consisting of family, friends, bridesmaids and even grooms coming all together for an appointment. If you want to come in with your entourage for support, we welcome that as there's nothing more important than a happy client.

One of the first things that will be discussed is the date of your big day to determine deadlines and how many appointments will be required to have your dress ready. In our experience, the majority of our clients require only two appointments, but of course, depending on the work that needs to be done on the dress there might be the need for an additional appointment.

What to Bring

When you come for your appointment, to get the best results, our master Zoya recommends bringing the shoes you will be wearing on the day. If you don’t have the perfect duo for your dress yet, we recommend bringing the closest pair you have to match with the height of the heel you're planning to wear. When you put on the dress, it will allow you to see the whole picture of how the dress will look like with heels and how the hem should be altered to match.

When it comes to undergarments, wedding dresses usually have built-in cups, so you don’t require a bra to wear underneath your dress on the big day. But if you choose to wear a bra, it’s important to consider that every bra absolutely changes the shape and size of the breast, which can affect your dress alterations if you wear different bras for each appointment.

Talks and Pinning

Once you’ve put on your gorgeous dress, Zoya will discuss with you what you want to get altered and will give you advice on what will make your dress look its best on you. As you talk through the process of alteration, and what you want to get done, whether it be adding sleeves or shortening the hem, Zoya will start pinning your dress. Once everything is pinned, secured and you’re happy with everything, it’s time to set the time for the next appointment.

Let’s talk about prices

It really depends on what will be getting done on your wedding dress as these garment pieces are detailed, intricate, and very different. That’s why we recommend setting up an obligation-free appointment with no hidden fees to see what your bridal gown needs and how much it will cost you.

We want to create a pleasant and seamless experience for you while providing a unique professional service. It’s one of the biggest days in your life, and nothing makes us happier than seeing how each bride shines on her wedding day. Get in touch with Zoya to book an appointment.
